Bradley Beal’s Move to Phoenix Suns

Phoenix Suns

The conclusion of the 2023 NBA season has brought about the first major player movement, with Bradley Beal, the prominent figure of the Washington Wizards, being traded to the Phoenix Suns. This trade has sparked anticipation for a formidable ‘Big Three’ alongside Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, which is expected to impact the market substantially. Notably, Beal’s previous contract included a no-trade clause, as he had signed a lucrative five-year agreement worth $251 million in 2022, making his approval necessary for the trade.

As a result of the trade, the forward, now a member of the Suns, will earn $46.7 million in the upcoming season, securing over $200 million through 2026.

The trade details involved the Washington Wizards acquiring Chris Paul, Landry Shamet, and multiple second-round NBA Draft picks. Speculation has arisen regarding Chris Paul’s potential departure from the team as they embark on a rebuilding phase.

During the 2022-23 campaign, Bradley Beal showcased his skills in 50 games, averaging 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game. He displayed an impressive shooting percentage of 50.6% from the paint and 36.5% from beyond the arc.

Beal’s journey with the Wizards began in 2012 when he was drafted at the age of 19 as the third overall pick, following Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Since then, he has participated in 695 regular-season games, maintaining a solid average of 22.1 points, 4.3 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Beal was recognized as a part of the All-Rookie quintet in his rookie season and earned a spot on the All-NBA third team in the 2020-21 season.

Beal holds the second-highest scoring record in Wizards history with 15,391 points, with only Elvin Hayes (15,551) surpassing him. Additionally, he holds the franchise record for the most three-pointers made, totaling 1,514.
