Canelo Álvarez is challenged by Jermell Charlo

Canelo Álvarez

The victory of Canelo Álvarez over the British John Ryder last Saturday at the Akron stadium has divided opinions in the world of boxing since some consider that the Mexican boxer did not show a great performance.

Despite the criticism, Álvarez had no problem defeating the Brit by unanimous decision to leave his record at 59-2-2 and retain the Undisputed Super Middleweight Championship.

With the support of an entire stadium full of his compatriots, Canelo sent Ryder to the canvas several times. With a combination in the fifth round, the Briton visited the ground for the first time, but he was able to get up to continue the fight, which got complicated for him since the overhand right that he received on the ropes in the fourth round.

The strong punishments were repeated in the subsequent rounds, and Ryder was constantly taken to the ropes; he even felt wobbly when he tried to dodge the Mexican’s fists.

New Challenge

After the fight in his homeland, Canelo has received a new challenge.

Through a video on Instagram, the American boxer, Jermell Charlo criticized the Mexican for his boxing level and assured that he could beat him without a problem.

“Because they don’t tell Canelo to fight for an undisputed championship. Undisputed vs. undisputed. I can gain weight. With that performance (against John Ryder at Akron Stadium) he doesn’t beat me,” Charlo said.

Charlo is the undisputed WBC, WBO, WBA, and IBF Super Welterweight Champion. And has wanted to get into the ring with Canelo Álvarez for several years, and throughout his career, he has launched several fight proposals to the Mexican, who has rejected him in each of them.

“He fought in Houston, Austin (Trout), Kirkland, and fought Alfonso Gomez. That was me at that moment, challenging his butt. We were at the same weight. Mayweather was the champion, and Canelo was ranked number one. Miguel Cotto was number two,” Charlo said in an interview in 2022.

Piece of Advice for Canelo

In an interview with ESNEWS, Errol Spence Jr stated that Canelo should stay away from boxers in the 175-pound category because his power is not the same as in the 168-pound category. In addition, he stated that a good fight for the Mexican would be against David Benavidez.

“David Benavidez would be a great fight. I think he should stay away from Dmitry Bivol, shit, I think he should stay away from Artur Beterbiev too. For him to come back to 168 pounds, 175 would be forcing things,” Spence Jr said. “I don’t think his power could affect Bivol at 175 like he could at a lower weight.”

These tips come because, after his victory over Ryder, Canelo declared that he wanted a rematch against Bivol. However, according to ESPN Bivol does not want anything with the Mexican.

“Why should I do the rematch at 175? What is the challenge, or what is the motivation for me if I already beat him in that weight class? And I don’t think we need to worry about who thinks what. It really is about what we want, what each one of us wants,” Bivol said.

Canelo’s next fights

The boxing world is buzzing with excitement as fans and experts alike try to predict who will be the next great rival for Canelo Alvarez. Despite his impressive record, there has yet to be a clear contender that can match his skill and power in the ring. This lack of a defined rival creates great speculation among not only fans and experts but also bettors looking to capitalize on the uncertainty.

Bookies that utilize the Bookies Per Head system have a significant advantage over their competitors. With this innovative software, bookmakers can offer their clients a vast array of betting options, including prop bets on big events like Canelo’s next opponent. The system is designed to streamline the betting process and provide bettors with an unrivaled user experience.

Prop bets have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly for major sporting events. These types of wagers allow bettors to place bets on specific outcomes rather than just the overall outcome of a game or match. For example, prop bets could include whether Canelo will win by knockout or decision, how many rounds the fight will last, or even what color shorts he’ll be wearing when he enters the ring.

The Bookies Per Head system makes it easy for bookmakers to offer these types of prop bets and more.
