Four-time All-Star and reigning American League MVP Aaron Judge has been placed on the 10-day injured list.
This is not good news for the Yankees, who signed the player to a nine-year, $360 million deal just a few months ago.
So far this season, Judge has a .261 batting average, with six home runs and 14 RBIs.
The Judge was injured Wednesday, ironically on his 31st birthday, when he fell hard in a head-first dive against the Minnesota Twins.
He stayed in the game and started Thursday against the Texas Rangers but left in the fourth after striking out twice.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was optimistic about the player’s evolution. “In each of the last few days, I feel like he’s been better,” Boone said before Judge went to practice. “I just want to make sure we do what’s right for him and what’s best for us.”
This is the seventh time Judge has gone on the disabled list since 2016. During those stints on the list, he has missed 156 games; 18 games in 2016 with a right oblique strain, 45 in 2018 with a broken right wrist after being hit by a pitch from Kansas City Royals’ Jakob Junis, 54 in 2019 with a left oblique strain, two periods of 30 total duels in 2020 with a right calf strain and nine in 2021 due to COVID.
The Yankees want to take care of Judge since he is their best hitter. Apparently, the injury is more severe than previously thought, so the ten days out could be extended even more.
The Yankees also have Giancarlo Stanton, Harrison Bader, and third baseman Josh Donaldson on the injury list.
The impact of injuries on betting lines.
When a star player like Aaron Judge gets injured, it can have a ripple effect on the entire team and even impact betting lines. The Yankees are no exception to this rule. For a team that relies heavily on the performance of its key players, any injury can cause significant problems for both the team and bookies managing the risk involved with betting.
Monitoring injuries closely is critical for bookies as they could lead to unexpected outcomes in games and dramatically affect betting patterns. With Judge out of action, this leaves a considerable gap in the Yankees’ lineup that opposing teams will look to exploit. Bookies must adjust their odds accordingly to ensure that they minimize their losses while also keeping bettors engaged.
